MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR YOUR LINGERIE

Lingerie – Bras, Briefs, including our robes are our intimate apparels and I firmly believe that the level of care given to them must be different from our regular outfits. Most especially, because of the fabrics components and structure.

Irrespective of -the type of bra you like to shop for, you need to treat them as delicate products when washing and drying. Even the greatest fabrics available cannot rescue your underwear if you don’t take proper care of it, thus poor maintenance can completely damage your favourite undergarments.

Your lingerie deserves tender loving and care – According to *Aderonke Olamilokun, a certified bra fitting specialist and founder of Intimately Mine, “Great quality lingerie is an investment and should be treated with care *if you’ve want to get value for your investment out of your purchase”*. Taking good care of your favourite pieces means that you get to enjoy them looking better and trust them to last longer.

So here are five tips on how to take good care of your lingerie.

1. DO NOT WASH YOUR BRAS AFTER EACH WEAR:

Constant washing can actually break down the materials that provide support, and this can damage the bra’s structure. Ideally, a bra should be washed every two-three wears and a brief should be washed after every wear.

2. USE GENTLE DETERGENT:

Your underwear often solely contains body perspiration. It isn’t filthy and doesn’t require the use of potent detergents or soaps to clean it.
Make sure that you only use a tiny bit of mild detergent. You can use lingerie-specific detergents, and we also advise choosing an environmentally friendly choice.

3. BE MINDFUL OF THE WATER TEMPERATURE:

Aderonke advised that warm water is the most preferred water for washing lingerie. “Fill a tub with warm water (max 30°C) and detergent, and put in the dirty lingerie (ideally with the clasps fastened so they can’t snag anywhere that they shouldn’t) and repeatedly immerse the lingerie. Make sure to swirl lingerie around the water. Don’t wring it or rub it. Rinse with clear warmish water (max 30°C) until all the detergent is gone.

4. TAKE CAUTION WHEN WASHING BY MACHINE:

Although, hand washing is greatly recommended, however, in a world where everyone is occupied with different activities, Aderonke mentioned that “If you really want to opt for the washing machine, then turn your lingerie inside out and place in a lingerie wash bag to protect the garment. Please wash items on a gentle wash cycle e.g. for wool or delicate items 30°CHopefully, going with these steps will maximize the wear from the garments”.

5. LET BRAS AIR-DRY:

Electric dryers can be hard on lingerie. The heat can break down a bra’s elasticity stretching the bra out more quickly. Plus, the dryer tosses the bra around, and allows it to rub against other items. The other items in the dryer could have buttons or hooks that can damage the detailing of the fabric on the bra. Air dry your bras in order to keep them safe after washing. Lingerie are not to be ironed.

6. ROTATE YOUR BRAS AND PANTIES:

When you find a bra or pair of panties that you absolutely love wearing for any reason, make sure to buy multiples of them. Don’t just wash it continuously, and wear it again and again, as it will wear out in just a matter of weeks.

To shop for more bras, we recommend products from (Intimately Mine Lingerie). Each bras from this shop, comes with a lingerie laundry bag.

7. FOLD CAREFULLY:

When a nice bra becomes wrinkled after some time in your wardrobe, it doesn’t always feel good. Ensure that you are folding the moulded bras correctly and avoid placing anything heavy on them, so that it doesn’t damage the bra’s structure. Also, you can stack them or cup them into each other before you putting them into your lingerie drawer or closet.
